The Mystique of Kailash-Mansarovar Film concept The human mind always seeks to define the Infinite and this quest manifests in different paths to reach perhaps the same goal! Mt.Kailash, considered Asia’s holiest mountain, stands in an isolated corner of western Tibet. Made of stark black stone, it soars 6,714 m high, it’s peculiar pyramid like shape giving it an unique identity and power. This is the abode of the supreme Hindu deity, Lord Shiva. The Tibetans know it as Kang Rinpoche – precious jewel of the snow, and believe it to be the manifestation of the Buddha himself. At the foot of this awesome mountain lies the vast expanse of Lake Mansarovar, considered as the primordial waters of creation by both Hindus and Buddhists alike. The question that arises in the mind is why is this mountain the chosen one? Pilgrims attest to the mountain’s “presence” and to its powerful “vibrations”. Deep horizontal cuts on the south face of the mountain are seen as the steps to Infinity. So holy is its presence that no one is permitted to climb it. One can only do a ritual circumambulation around it. The film will depict the journey to Kailash-Mansarovar as a journey into the mind of a sub-continent where the seeker’s quest echoes in numerous myths and belief systems and the entire landscape rises like a chant of yearning for the Absolute. In this process, the inter-relationship between the Hindu and the Buddhist faiths will be explored.
