Biography – Mandakini Mathur

 

Mandakini Mathur did her M-Phil in Cinema Studies from the Sorbonne, Paris in 1989. Based in Panchgani, a small hill station near Pune in western India she teaches communication skills to high school students where film-making is used as a means of  exploring reality around us.  She has been making films on issues of environmental concern, Indian culture and spirituality and on child centric themes. While most of her work is in the digital format, she has directed a 40 min 35 mm film for the Films Division, Government of India called Looking For A God With River Krishna. She has also regularly been scripting and directing street plays with school children on topical, socially relevant themes for the last ten years. She believes that film-making is not only a means of creative expression but is an effective tool for teaching / learning and thus for bringing about social change.
